Our Lady of Grace Church Roof Replacement
In 2015, the Parish Buildings & Grounds Committee in conjunction with the Parish Finance Council addressed the need for the replacement of the church roof. After years of chasing down roof leaks, the decision was to begin the process of having a new roof installed on the church.
In a presentation to the parish last fall, Monsignor Ryan informed the parish of the need to replace the roof and that a special collection would be taken up on the last weekend of each month until the goal was reached. Due to the generosity of our parishioners the goal was reached in the spring of 2016 and bids for the work were obtained.
The roof work began in June 2016 and was complete on July 6, 2016. During demolition it was discovered that the tiles that were originally installed on the roof in 1953 were dated April 1924 so the tiles lasted 90+ years. The new roof is a asphalt product that resembles tile. Many people have commented how nice it looks!
The installers were hampered by a heat wave during installation. During the 3 week period, ground temperatures during the day reached 100 degrees and it must have been unbearably hot standing/working on the church roof!
We would like to thank Wolcott Roofing, Federal Electric, Inc. and Hofmiller Heating & Cooling for their assistance in getting this project completed. Also, the many parish volunteers who helped clean and reorganize the church after the project was over.
Also, thanks to parishioner, Bob Bradley, for providing us with the following photos:
